Imagine it. You’re nearing the end of your senior year of undergrad and are looking forward to your future. The last days of classes are approaching, finals, then before you know it, GRADUATION. All of this sounds great, right? Wait, are you prepared for life post-graduation? Do you have a job secured? Hopefully, in this scenario you are someone who has been ahead of the game and has a job secured by preparation. In this post I will share with you tips on how I believe will help you secure a job in PR post-graduation.

Jobs and opportunities do not just fall into your lap, you must chase them! We are our own sewers of success. First things first, have an updated and reputable resume. A resume is often the first piece of information an employer learns about you. Your resume is what will aid you in securing an interview. If you can’t tell, a resume holds much importance, therefore it must be good! I highly recommend visiting your university’s career services center because they help you format your resume and help you prepare for your future in the professional world.

Speaking of the professional world, let’s talk about internships! Internships are proven to be one of the best ways to secure a job with a company after graduating. Not only do they give you valuable experience, but get your face out there to future employers. I have seen many times employers offer jobs to inters after graduating, so getting an internship is a must. When in search for one, any internship will be a learning experience, but looking at ones in your specific area of interest is very important. For entertainment PR, you should apply to internships that can help prepare you for that field. Interning at magazines companies, record labels, performing theaters, and of course a PR agency that specializes in entertainment, will greatly benefit you. Doing this, this will up your chances on possibly securing a job in that area, or even with a company you interned with. Public relations is a competitive field, so the more experience you gain during undergrad, the closer you are to securing a job in your desired field after graduation.
